A WATERFRONT KITCHEN REMODEL SAVANNAH GA
Charlie Angell is Savannah’s House Doctor, a native of the city himself, and the trusted general contractor for hundreds of Savannah families. In 2013, the Dean Stevens family called upon Charlie and his team to renovate the kitchen of a waterfront family home. Featuring antique heart pine and whimsical detailing, the kitchen will no doubt be the center of this young family’s life for years to come.
Time to Call the House Doctor
The Stevens family recently moved into the 100-year old home, which has plenty of room to grow. The five-bedroom house has a spacious kitchen with a view overlooking the Forest River. The family wanted a simple, family-oriented kitchen: a comfortable, warm, functional space for years and years of anticipated family gatherings.
Of Heart Pine and the Home Hearth
Charlie Angell and his team of in-house craftsmen went to work gutting the kitchen while roofing and waterproofing was underway outside. The agreed-upon “look” was down-home, low country style: heart pine and salvaged, reused, and distressed woods. The House Doctor oversaw the installation of new windows, refinished the heart pine floors, and restored the masonry details throughout.
Home is in the details. The House Doctor’s carpenters had a great time working with this client, and their new kitchen features heart pine counter tops with undermount sinks. There is a cupboard of heart pine, the door to which doubles as a chalkboard. The House Doctor team created the counters, bi-fold pantry and linen closet doors, and countless other notable details.
